 ENRGY 100: INTRO TO ENERGY MGMT

Managing energy use: energy efficiency, environmental protection, energy policy, exhaustible energy supplies, renewable energy potential, climate impacts, cost-effectiveness, compliance and citizenship. Prerequisite: Minimum English placement into BRDGE 093 or EAP 121.

 ENRGY 102: ENERGY BASICS

Introduction to energy concepts including the overall science of energy, forms of energy, energy types and sources, useful energy and energy conversion, common uses of energy in society, climate change and renewable energy sources. Prerequisite: Placement into MATH 060 or completion of BUS 130 and minimum English placement into BRDGE 093 or EAP 121.

 ENRGY 105: INTRO TO SUSTAINABILITY

Explore and define sustainability. Understand carbon footprints and greenhouse gas inventory. Review major energy systems impacting sustainability, including buildings and transportation. Emphasis on tools to measure sustainability. Prerequisite: Minimum English placement into BRDGE 093 or EAP 121.

 ENRGY 120: ENRGY EFF: DESIGN and CNST

Elements of an energy efficient building envelope: heating, cooling; water heating equipment, lighting, appliances, electronics. Includes design strategies and innovations for new construction as well as elements of retrofitting an existing building. Emphasis on residential. Prerequisite: ENRGY 102. Recommended: CONST 141.

 ENRGY 130: ENRGY ASSESMNT and ANLYSIS

Assess and analyze energy use in both residential and small commercial settings. Focus on building energy use, heating, cooling, equipment, lighting and appliances. Impacts of operations, maintenance, occupant practices and behavior. Prerequisite: ENRGY 102. Recommended: CONST 141.

 ENRGY 135: ENERGY ACCOUNTING

Determine the amount of energy used at a site. Consider all forms of energy, benchmark energy use for similar facilities, identify patterns and anomalies in data as indicators of opportunities for efficiency upgrades. Understand utility rates and billing structures. Prerequisite: ENRGY 102. Recommended: ACCT 101.

 ENRGY 140: COMMERCIAL LIGHTING

Energy efficient light sources, fixtures and techniques; selection of products and elements, development of a lighting plan including controls. Emphasis on small to medium sized businesses. Prerequisite: ENRGY 100.
