Introduction to CPT, ICD-9-CM and Level II HCPC's coding systems. Medical topics related to Medicare fraud and abuse, as it relates to coding and payment collection in any medical setting. HIPAA issues related to privacy, security and transaction code sets will be introduced. Prerequisite: BSTEC 104 or instructor's permission.

Prerequisite: BSTEC 110 and 130 or CIS 100. Accuplacer writing score of 82 and reading score of 78. BSTEC 100 is strongly recommended.

The BSTEC Skills Center offers a variety of courses and times to choose from. The instruction is individualized; most courses require basic computer skills, some require word processing skills. Unless noted otherwise, courses include S/U grade option.
Registration is permitted any time during the first seven weeks of the quarter (six weeks for summer) as space is available.
Orientation Guidelines: Students registered at beginning of the quarter must attend a mandatory orientation session at first day of class. Students registering later MUST attend an orientation meeting within the first week of their contract start date.
